Cat Sitting

Senior Cat Sitter - Portland, OR

Cat Sitter Serving in NW Portland & St. Johns

Bat Country Pet Sitting provides insured, in-home cat sitting in the NW Portland and St. Johns areas for adult cats, seniors, shy cats, multi-cat households, and cats with more involved medical or daily care routines.

We offer drop-in visits, overnight cat sitting, and 24-hour live-in care depending on your cat’s needs and the level of support your household requires.

Our approach is simple: learn what is normal for your cat, keep their routine as consistent as possible, respect their boundaries, and pay attention when something changes.

Why In-Home Care Works Better for Cats

Most cats would rather stay home with their own bed, litter box, favorite window, hiding spots, and familiar routine than adjust to a boarding environment. That is especially true for seniors, shy cats, and cats with medical needs.

We follow your cat’s lead. If they want play, brushing, conversation, or a lap, great. If they would rather watch us from under the bed for all of our visits, that’s fine too.

Our goal isn’t to force interaction or manufacture a cute photo. It is to keep your cat comfortable, cared for, and as close to their normal routine as possible.

What We Pay Attention To

Meals and Fresh Water

We handle food and water according to your normal routine, including prescription diets, supplements, food sensitivities, raw and handmade diets, and detailed meal preparation.

We wash bowls at every visit, leave feeding areas tidy, and check water fountains for water levels and cleanliness, rather than simply top them off.

We watch fountains for nasty buildup, hair clumps, and low water levels, and do the kind of maintenance that keeps your cat’s drinking setup clean, hygienic, and inviting. (Read more about biofilm in pet dishes and fountains.)

Litter Care & Monitoring

We scoop litter boxes at every visit, but litter care goes beyond scooping poops. Changes in urine, stool, frequency, accidents, straining, or other litter-box behavior are crucial to note, especially for cats with urinary, renal, gastrointestinal, or other chronic conditions.

We also notice changes in appetite, drinking, mobility, social behavior, hiding, grooming, and general comfort. “Quiet” does not always mean “fine,” especially in cats.

We value observation, documentation, and letting you know when something looks different from the baseline you described in our intake and in your detailed pet care sheets.

Medication and Advanced Support Needs

We work with many cats whose care goes beyond feeding, litter, and companionship.

All medications and supportive care are provided according to the care plan established with you and, when applicable, instructions from your veterinarian.

We do not replace veterinary care. We ensure that medication schedules are followed, communicate clearly about what was given and how it went, and let you know right away when something concerns us.

For many clients, especially those leaving a senior or recently diagnosed cat for the first time, that level of communication makes all the difference, letting you travel with less worry and knowing your cat is in attentive, experienced hands.

Senior and Special-Needs Cats

Older cats benefit from more predictable routines, quieter handling, easier access to food and litter, close attention to hydration and elimination, and a sitter who understands that small changes are worth noting.

Cats with CKD or GI issues like IBD, cats prone to UTIs,  diabetes, hyperthyroidism, arthritis, urinary disease, or other chronic conditions need a more structured care plan than a routine drop-in visit provides.

We will talk through those needs before you travel and help determine whether drop-in visits, overnight care, or 24-hour live-in support make the most sense.
