Skilled Care Through the Night

Some pets need a sitter in the house overnight but don’t need full-day live-in care.

Bat Country Pet Sitting offers overnight pet sitting services for cats, dogs, exotic pets, senior animals, and multi-species households in northwest and north Portland. Your sitter handles the evening routine, stays overnight in your home, and completes breakfast and morning care before leaving.

Two service levels make it easier to choose the right amount of support and understand what your care will cost.

Routine Overnight Pet Care: $65 Per Night

Routine overnight care is our most affordable option, intended for pets with straightforward routines and no significant medical, mobility, or behavioral support needs.

Routine overnight pet sitting includes:

• Up to two low-support needs, indoor pets (including dogs under 25 lbs)
• Care from 7 pm to 8 am
• Evening feeding, fresh water, and routine pet care
• Morning feeding and care
• Potty breaks for dogs during the overnight period
• Litter box scooping or routine habitat spot cleaning
• Play, companionship, brushing, as appropriate (additional enrichment services are available)
• One daily update with pictures or video through Signal
• Basic cleanup of pet-created messes
• Basic house sitting and security tasks

This service does not include daytime care, advanced medical support, intensive behavioral support for anxious dogs, or extended supervision outside the overnight period.

Extended or Specialty Overnight Care: Starting at $85 Per Night

Extended or Specialty Overnight pet sitting is designed for households that need more time, more hands-on support, or a more involved care routine.

This level may be required for:

• Arrival earlier than 7 pm
• Departure later than 8 am
• Multiple pets, including dogs over 25 lbs
• Senior or special-needs animals
• Time-sensitive medications or treatments
• Insulin injections, subcutaneous fluids, or other skilled medical support
• Mobility or incontinence support
• Detailed feeding or food-preparation routines
• Multi-species households
• Reptiles, birds, small mammals, and exotic pets with complex husbandry needs
• Animals requiring more frequent overnight checks
• Pets with behavioral concerns like anxiety or geriatric needs
• Pet set-ups and enclosures needing additional cleaning or maintenance

The final price is based on the time required, number and type of animals, care complexity, location, and level of supervision.

Most Extended or Specialty Overnight bookings fall between $85 and $105 per night. You will receive the complete rate before confirming your reservation.

Daytime Care Is Scheduled Separately

Overnight care covers the scheduled evening, nighttime, and morning period.

Dogs cannot be left without an appropriate daytime potty plan. If your dog needs a midday potty break, meal, medication, or companionship, we can help you schedule a midday drop-in visit.

Cats, birds, reptiles, rabbits, and other animals may also need daytime care based on their feeding schedule, medication needs, habitat requirements, or normal routine.

If your pets need substantially more daytime presence, 24-hour live-in care may be the better fit.

What Overnight Pet Sitting Includes

Every overnight service includes the care listed in your written service agreement.

Depending on the booking, this might include:

• Feeding and fresh water
• Potty breaks and approved walks
• Medication administration
• Litter box, enclosure, or habitat care
• Basic heat, humidity, lighting, and equipment checks
• Play, brushing, and companionship (extra enrichment services are available)
• Monitoring appetite, elimination, mobility, behavior, and comfort
• Secure updates through the Signal or Google Chat apps
• Cleanup of routine pet-created messes
• Basic home care and security checks

Advanced treatments, extensive sanitation, special food preparation, garden maintenance, and other time-intensive tasks might require an additional fee.

A Note About Dog Walking

We do not provide traditional off-property dog walking as part of overnight pet sitting.

Sniffari walks are available for senior or special-needs dogs when the route, handling requirements, neighborhood, and dog’s condition make this appropriate. Otherwise, potty breaks and outdoor time take place on the client’s property.

How Overnight Pet Sitting Works

Your sitter stays in your home during the contracted overnight period. They bring their own food, drinks, toiletries, and personal supplies.

A clean, safe, and suitable place to sleep must be available. A bed or comfortable futon is acceptable. We do not accept sleeping arrangements involving sofas, old sofa beds, air mattresses, or mattresses placed on the floor.

Your sitter can bring bedding to place over the household bedding if preferred.

Arrival and departure times are confirmed before the reservation begins. Additional time outside the contracted overnight period must be arranged in advance and may result in the booking being moved to the Extended or Specialty Overnight rate.

Care for Your Home While You Are Away

Basic house sitting is included with overnight pet care. Your sitter can:

• Bring in mail, newspapers, and packages
• Remove flyers or solicitations from the door
• Rotate lights
• Open or close curtains and blinds
• Take trash and recycling bins out or bring them back in
• Check the thermostat/HVAC system settings
• Water a reasonable number of plants
• Perform a basic daily walkthrough of the home
• Report signs of leaks, power loss, equipment failure, or other concerns

Vegetable gardens, hydroponic systems, extensive outdoor watering, and other plant care needs are quoted separately.

Professional Standards and Privacy

We are background-checked, insured, bonded, and certified in Pet First Aid and CPR.

Only your contracted sitter will enter or stay in your home. We do not bring friends, children, guests, or animals from our own household. We do not smoke or vape, and we don’t bring alcohol into client homes.

Client identities, travel plans, access information, and home details are kept private. Keys are coded so they cannot be connected to your name or address.

Home and Access Requirements

Overnight bookings require:

• Secure and reliable internet access
• Working exterior door and window locks
• Functional exterior lighting at main entry points
• Working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms
• Safe, legal parking that does not require the sitter to pay
• A clean and functional sleeping area
• Accurate emergency contact and veterinary information
• Clear written instructions for all animals in the home
• An active security system is preferred, but not required. Entry codes, alarm instructions, cameras, and other home monitoring devices must be disclosed before service begins.

Service Area

Overnight pet sitting is available in Northwest and areas of North Portland, St. Johns, University Park, Arbor Lodge, Overlook, and select nearby neighborhoods.

Availability outside of our core area is limited and may require a travel fee. Review our service areas here.

Cancellations and Availability

Overnight services are limited and often book well in advance, especially during holidays and common travel periods.

Reserved pet-care time limits my availability to accept other clients, particularly for overnight, live-in, and specialized-care bookings.

Cancellation fees:

• Within 14 days of the scheduled start date: 50% of the booking total
• Within 7 days: 75% of the booking total
• Within 48 hours: 100% of the booking total
