Unusual companion animals aren’t just conversation starters. They’re cherished critters and family members and often a little misunderstood by sitters unfamiliar with their specific needs.
My name is Brea Corwin. I offer thoughtful, one-on-one care tailored to the unique needs of non-traditional pets in NW Portland and surrounding neighborhoods.
I’ll keep them safe, enriched, and well cared for while you’re away.
I support all sorts of amazing creatures, like:
- Reptiles (bearded dragons, snakes, turtles)
- Small mammals (rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, ferrets, hedgehogs)
- Amphibians (frogs, toads, salamanders)
- Invertebrates (tarantulas, roaches, mantids, scorpions)
- Other companion animals (pot-bellied pigs, sugar gliders, etc)
What Are Exotic Pets?
In pet sitting, the term “exotic” typically refers to species that require specialized handling, enclosures, or diets not covered by dog and cat sitting services. These include birds, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, and small mammals with different or intensive care and husbandry needs.
Birds
This includes parrots like conures, lovebirds, budgies, parakeets, and others. These animals require far more than seed mixes or casual interaction. Most parrots need a rotating variety of fresh vegetables, fruits, high-quality pellets, and species-appropriate proteins, depending on the bird.
Enrichment, mental stimulation, and attention to emotional well-being are just as critical as fresh food and water.
I’m familiar with common challenges like feather plucking, hormonal swings, and dietary imbalances, and I provide structured, appropriate support routines when you’re away. I prefer to work with smaller parrots, but will consider larger parrots that are reliably tame and easy to handle, if time out of their enclosure is required.
Reptiles & Amphibians
I’ll follow your established heating, lighting, and feeding schedules and can assess signs of dehydration, respiratory issues, or husbandry stress. Invertebrates
Tarantulas, scorpions, hissing cockroaches, vinegaroons, mantids, and other terrestrial inverts each come with their own requirements for temperature, substrate, humidity, and feeding.
Though many are considered low-maintenance, proper care involves routine enclosure checks, monitoring for molts or signs of stress, and species-appropriate handling or, more often, no handling at all. We’ll keep your freaky little friends safe and stable while you’re away.
Small Mammals
This group includes rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, rats, hamsters, gerbils, mice, ferrets, and more. And each species has very different dietary, environmental, and social needs. Guinea pigs need constant access to high-fiber hay and vitamin C-rich foods, while chinchillas require dust baths and controlled temperatures. Ferrets, as obligate carnivores, require high-protein foods. Whatever your wee fuzzy critters need, we’ve got them covered.

Special Diets? Carnivorous Pets? No Problem!
Many specialty pets require specially prepared diets or feed on other kinds of animals. I am comfortable feeding your animals whatever food they require. Common diets include frozen/thawed rodents, snakes, and chicks, to raw meat diets and Reptilinks, to chopped fruits, greens, and vegetables.
Feeding venomous exotics such as tarantulas, scorpions, etc is no problem, but I am not equipped to handle or work with venomous snakes.
I’m not squeamish and will be happy to do what’s needed to care for your strange and wonderful little friends!
