Chicken, Duck & Backyard Livestock Sitting

Chicken & Goat Sitter-Portland OR

Chicken, Duck & Backyard Animal Care You Can Count On

Portland is one of the most poultry-friendly cities in the country. Backyard chickens are a neighborhood staple, and ducks, quail, and doves are some of the most popular backyard and aviary birds.

But finding a qualified pet sitter is often the most frustrating part of owning outdoor poultry and small hoofstock.

You need a sitter who has:

  • hands-on experience with chickens, ducks, and other small backyard or aviary birds
  • clinical and husbandry experience with outdoor flocks, and
  • the confidence to handle whatever might come up with calm expertise

Poultry Sitting & Small Livestock Care

My name is Brea Corwin (read about my qualifications). I provide care for backyard poultry, aviary birds, goats and sheep, and other small backyard livestock in NW Portland, St. Johns, and nearby neighborhoods.

My care focuses on small flocks, backyard livestock, hobby farms, and mixed-species properties without equines.

Chicken Care & Flock Support

I handle daily egg collection, feed and water rotation, coop spot cleaning, and seasonal adjustments like supplemental lighting or ventilation changes.

I also watch for early signs of illness, including pale or discolored combs, lethargy, egg binding, bumblefoot, changes in egg production, and abnormal droppings.

If you have a broody hen, a flock of young birds needing monitoring and care, or a bird on medication or receiving supportive care, I can manage those without disrupting your established routines.

Ducks and Other Waterfowl

I maintain water sources for dabbling and bathing, dump and scrub containers, and watch for bumblefoot, egg binding, arthritis, and other problems.

If you keep ducks and chickens together, I’m comfortable managing mixed flocks and adjusting care for each species.

Quail

These birds are smaller and more fragile than chickens or ducks, and their care requires close attention to temperature, draft protection, and stress levels. I monitor food and water, check for signs of illness or injury, and clean enclosures with minimal disruption.

For outdoor aviaries, I check enclosure integrity at every visit.

Goats, Sheep & Hoofstock

Care for goats, sheep, and camelids (llamas, alpacas, etc.) includes feeding, fresh water, supplements, shelter checks, fencing and gate inspections, basic cleanup, and monitoring appetite, mobility, behavior, and overall condition. I follow your protocols for supplements, treats, and any ongoing care plans established with your vet.

If your hoofed friends have enrichment routines or treat-based interactions, I’ll keep those going while you’re away.

Chicken, Duck & Backyard Pet Sitting Rates

Visit length depends on the work involved, not just the number of animals. Routine spot cleanup is included within the booked visit time.

Backyard Basics

30 minutes

$35

A good fit for straightforward feeding, watering, egg collection, enclosure checks, and routine cleanup.

Mucking Around

45 minutes

$45

Better for mixed flocks, ducks, multiple enclosures, more involved cleaning, supplements, or several care tasks.

The Whole Hog

60 minutes

$55

Best for larger or more complex backyard setups, mixed-species households, small hoofstock, multiple enclosures, or complex routines.

Coop and Small-Barn Cleaning

Routine care includes reasonable spot cleanup associated with the animals I’m caring for. More involved cleaning can be added when needed.

Deep coop or small-barn cleaning: $35 per additional 30 minutes

This may include removing soiled bedding, scraping surfaces, cleaning nest areas or water stations, replacing bedding, and moving waste to your designated disposal area.

I quote larger cleanouts or labor-intensive engagements separately.

Overnight and 24-Hour Care

For many backyard-animal households, overnight visits or 24-hour live-in care make more sense than scheduling separate morning and evening visits.

This is especially true when animals:

  • free-range during the day
  • need morning turnout and evening lockup
  • require predator-sensitive routines
  • live in mixed-species households
  • need medications or closer observation
  • have several feeding, watering, or enclosure routines throughout the day

Overnight and live-in pricing is based on the entire household care plan, not separate charges for each chicken, duck, goat, or enclosure.

A straightforward flock might add little work to an existing pet sitting booking. Ducks, multiple enclosures, hoofstock, or more involved routines may require additional care time. I’ll provide a custom quote after reviewing your full routine.

Who’s that kiddo in cowboy boots?

I grew up on a ranch in southern California. My parents raised and showed Arabian, Saddlebred, and National Show horses, while I built my own small business breeding and raising American Pygmy goats for sale when I was ten years old.

Caring for chickens, ducks, and goats was part of my daily routine, giving me years of hands-on experience with feeding, health checks, vet visits, and the steady routines farm animals depend on.

Today, I bring that practical experience to every visit. I understand the importance of consistent routines, careful observation, and recognizing small changes before they become bigger problems.

My vet tech background includes small animal and exotic clinics, emergency and critical care, and formal veterinary technician education.

I’m also a Certified Small Animal Massage Practitioner (CSAMP) and a Pet First Aid and CPR-certified instructor. I carry commercial pet sitter insurance, and I’m bonded.
