About Bat Country Pet Sitting
Bat Country Pet Sitting is a specialty pet sitting and animal support service based in northwest Portland, Oregon.
My name is Brea Corwin. I founded BatCo in 2014 and have built it around one principle: the animals in my care get the same quality of attention I’d want for my own. That means veterinary-informed knowledge applied in your home, on your pet’s terms, within the routines they already know.
In 2025, Joshua Smith joined BatCo as a cat and small-animal sitter, providing drop-in, overnight, and 24-hour live-in care.
Our Range of Services
Our services cover the full range of in-home pet care, from senior cat and dog sits to birds and reptiles, to medically intensive live-in engagements in multi-species households. We serve the neighborhoods of northwest Portland, St. Johns and University Park. This includes the 97203, 97205, 97207, 97209, 97210, 97217, 97221 and 97229 areas.
24-hour live-in services are available in the following areas: northwest Portland, Northwest Heights, Sylvan-Highlands, Skyline, Arlington Heights, St. Johns, Arbor Lodge, Overlook, University Park, and the Sauvie Island area.
Professional Standards
- Insured and bonded through Pet Sitters Associates, with commercial liability coverage for accidents, injuries, and property damage.
- Pet Professional Guild member. I do not use choke chains, prong collars, shock collars, or any pain or fear-based handling methods with any animal.
- PSI Pet Sitters International member
- No breed discrimination. I do not support breed-specific legislation. Well-behaved dogs of every breed are welcome.
- Pet First Aid and CPR certified.
- Clean background check and driving record, available on request.

Drop-in pet care visits
Our full-service pet care visits for dogs, cats, small animals, and more start at $26/visit for one indoor pet (up to 30 minutes). We offer up to two visits daily. The length of each visit and the final rate are based on your location, the number/type of pets, and their needs. House sitting services are included to help your home look lived-in and stay secure while you’re away.
Live-in pet sitting
We provide overnight visits and 24-hour live-in pet sitting, keeping your animals in their own environment where stress stays low and routines stay intact.
For pets with medical needs, I can provide medication administration, subcutaneous fluids, insulin injections, post-operative monitoring, wound care, and special diet preparation. I bring the same clinical skill set to every sit that I developed through veterinary technician training and hands-on clinic work.
Senior and special needs pets
We provide in-home support for aging, disabled, and medically complex animals, whether they’re fluffy, feathered, or scaled. Our primary clients are cats and dogs, but any critters in need of support and veterinary care are welcome.
Care for exotic companion animals
I have experience in exotic pet sitting for reptiles, birds, small mammals, and other non-traditional companion animals. Species-appropriate handling, husbandry, and environmental management are part of every exotic and multi-species booking.
Goat, chicken & backyard pet sitting
Daily care for outdoor animals includes watching for predators, noticing changes in flock behavior, keeping hutches, stalls, and food/water containers clean, and catching early issues like frozen waterers, failed heaters, loose fencing, or escape attempts. Small problems with backyard pets like chickens, goats, or ducks can escalate fast, which is why experience matters as much as hands-on care when you are away.
Pet care coordination & support
Beyond daily care, I offer veterinary liaison services for guardians managing complex or multi-provider medical situations, customized enrichment planning for animals who need more than food and water while you’re gone, and emergency preparedness consultations to help you build a plan before you need one.
Your Privacy and Your Home
I take privacy seriously. Client identities are never shared outside my business. Keys are coded so they can’t be matched to your address or personal information. If someone arrives at your home during a contracted sit, I confirm I’m there at your request and provide no further information. If anyone contacts me needing to reach you, I contact you on their behalf. I do not release your information to anyone without your prior approval.
I treat your home with the same care I give your animals. I bring a full cleaning kit to every visit and leave pet areas, litter boxes, and common spaces clean and tidy.
Scope of Practice
I provide skilled care, first aid, and medical support within the bounds of my training. I do not diagnose illness or injury, and I do not substitute for veterinary care. If something concerns me, I flag it to you and recommend a vet visit. If a situation is urgent, I stabilize your pet and transport them to your veterinarian.

Why Bat Country?
The concept of Bat Country Pet Sitting was born under the Congress Avenue Bridge in Austin, Texas, where three-quarters of a million Mexican free-tailed bats explode into the sky at sundown. Tourists call it a spectacle. Locals treat it like church. I named the business after them because it made sense.
I launched BatCo in Austin in 2014 alongside Austin Pet First Aid, where I taught pet first aid and CPR certification courses to pet owners, first responders, and people working in rescue and shelter organizations.
When I was a child, I read Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas before I had words for what kind of young human I was and how I was wired. Neurodivergent, hyperlexic, wandering – a child who was ‘too much’.
But Hunter Thompson’s words made sense to me. So did Ralph Steadman’s art. The bats in Austin made sense to me, pouring out from under the bridge like a black scream over Lady Bird Lake.
Bat Country got in my blood and stayed and now, it’s my life. I am a writer and artist, and an animal advocate who brings grit, sincerity, loyalty, and humor to my animal support services.
Today, BatCo serves Portland households who want skilled, trustworthy, professional care they can count on.
